007 Migration Agent, licence to waste my money???

June 19th 2008 06:19
Migration agents, advocates, lawyers or what ever you like to call them; are they a waste of money and effort OR are they a valuable source of assistance and guidance in one's migration to a new country?

Firstly; to give you an idea of a migration agent's current popularity the following is a summary of some statistics of visa applications for Australia between January - March 2008:

457 business long stay = 27,934 application - 57% of which used an agent

General skilled - sponsored = 2,758 - 45% of which used an agent

State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner = 281 - 74% of which used an agent

Spouse visa = 254 - 7% of which used an agent.

Now it must be made perfectly clear upfront; you can complete the entire process of your migration by yourself!
BUT You may make mistakes in your application or you may leave out important/crucial information or documents.

Forgetting documents can lead to lengthy time expenses.
Making mistakes can lead to refusal of application. Which can lead to more money being spent on a second application, which may prove to be harder after you have already been refused once.

HOWEVER,

If you use an agent....

Your application forms will be complete (assuming that the agent does their job), their will be no mistakes and all documents that need to be attached will be attached. This will result in the quickest response possible by the Australian Government. Also the agent will have a good idea of your chances and you should be confident on your success of your application as the agent would not of filed for such a visa if you were not going to be successful (again assuming the the agent does their job).

ALSO...some cases are very complicated and the courts and tribunal may come into play or you may need to adjust your situation or re-word your details (in a truthful manner) in order to ensure your chances. It is these cases where an agent is NEEDED.

SO...it really comes down to whether or not you think you need professional assistance with your migration process. If your not fully confident use an agent and be sure. If you are fully confident, then go for it!
